Valentine’s day had come around once more, and once again, Cindy was alone. Yes, she had dated her fair share of guys, but none of them had been the one. It could be said that she was picky when it came to boyfriends. Her search for the one had been the cause of many break-ups. It was hopeless really, to be so young and already want love. But it wasn’t really surprising that it was how Cindy felt. Her parents were dead, and with no one to love her, it seemed like the only solution. She hoped and wished that one day she would find him, whoever she was. How long it would take for him to come, she didn‘t know, but she did know that she would be able to tell when it was him. It would be love at first site, she was sure.
She took a bite of her panini, and looked around. It saddened her a little to know that this Valentine‘s would be spent alone, starring around Walten’s main street, wishing she was sitting at a table in the festively decorated Tea House. Cindy had never felt more alone than now, and that was saying something. Ever since her father’s death, she hadn’t felt anything but alone, even when she was in the company of others. But she never let it show. She had been told on countless occasions that she had her mother’s smile. In an attempt to hold on to everything she could of her mother, she forced herself to smile, even when it wasn’t needed or it wasn’t what she was feeling. A miserable life indeed.
Glancing at her watch, she finished the sandwich, and, grabbing her things, left the Past Bowl, calling out a cheerful “Ciao!” to the cook before stepping out of the shop. She walked down the street, waving and greeting the people she knew, and headed for Walten University. Her afternoon class, was probably her favourite. It was an Art History class, and Cindy loved nothing more. It had been clear from a young age that art was her calling, and though there were times when she felt like giving up, she could never disgrace her parents’ memories in such a way.
Within minutes, Cindy was stepping into the universities busy halls. She stopped in her tracks as she noticed that corridor was filled with kissing students. Everywhere. She felt a heavy lump for in her throat, and she tried desperately to hold back the tears. However, she couldn’t, and she ran out of the building, and walked straight for her appartment. It was the first class she had ever missed, though it was certainly not the last.
